Goals for each session

Acknowledge the difficult and hard while celebrating every day wins.
Observe the unspoken.
Be mindful of the slow, quiet work of healing and growth.
Find beauty and redemption in each story.

EXPERIENCE

I have over three years experience working with students ages ten to eighteen who are working through depression, low motivation, conflict at school, anger management, and anxiety.  I am pursuing credentialing as a registered play therapist (RPT) and will practice child centered play therapy.  I also have experience helping students find ways to be more connected in their schools and local communities, bringing health and healing.  My work with the non-profit has left me with a good working understanding of the school system.  Where many see roadblocks, I see pathways and possibilities.  My personal experience and professional training have given me a solid understanding of child development, relationship issues, and therapeutic strategies for success.

THEORY

In the counseling room I employ a person-centered approach.  My emphasis is on building trust and creating an open working relationship with each client.  With older students, I also utilize Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. In addition, I pull from Narrative theory because the essence of each child’s story aligns with chapters unfolding in their life.
